Italian Square Lucite and Brass Vide-Poche / Ashtray, 1970

In the 1970s, Italian workshops experimented with thick-cut lucite, exploiting its optical depth alongside polished metals. This square vide-poche exemplifies that approach: a solid lucite block with beveled facets on each corner, creating prismatic internal reflections with warm amber tones depending on the light.
The circular brass insert sits flush within the block with clean precision. Its patina golden, slightly matte in places contrasts with the lucite’s transparency. Designer and editor unidentified.
Condition: very good original state. Light natural oxidation on the brass, consistent with age. Lucite free of notable scratches, excellent clarity.
