A marble mosaic in the Sophia design, combining European White and Carrara T on mesh sheets of 8 3/4 by 13 1/2 inches, three eighths deep. The finish is multi finish and the logged colour is grey. A box holds six sheets for 4.92 square feet.

Two stones, two finishes

Sophia sets two different marbles into one sheet, and the multi finish treatment adds a second difference on top of the first: honed against polished, so light separates the pieces as well as colour does. Multicolor marble mosaics of this kind change as you move past them, which a single stone in a single finish cannot. Variation between sheets is slight, so the pattern repeats predictably even though the stone inside it does not. Dove grey unsanded grout is listed with it, which keeps the joints out of the way of the design.

  • Two marbles European White and Carrara T in one sheet.
  • Light as pattern Honed against polished, so the design reads in reflection.

Shower floors is the approval carried on file, and kitchen is the room listed beside it. Kitchen floor tiles in a mosaic format put more grout into every square foot than any large tile can, which is the usual reason mesh sheets end up on a surface that has to fall towards a drain. Sixty square feet takes fifteen boxes once waste is counted. Work adhesive fully behind each sheet, because a void under marble becomes a cracked piece under weight.

  • 4.92 sq ft a box Six sheets, fifteen boxes for 60 square feet.
  • No voids Adhesive behind the whole sheet, or a piece cracks later.

Why we chose it

  • Pattern with depth Two stones and two finishes working at once.
  • Predictable repeat Variation between sheets is recorded as slight.
  • Grout to match Dove grey unsanded grout is listed with it.

Care

Sealing follows installation, and the seal wants renewing every one to two years. Use a pH neutral stone cleaner, and keep bleach, ammonia and abrasive pads off the polished pieces.
