Glazed Terracotta Tiles 6×6

A 6×6 glazed terracotta tile with a bevelled edge and a 3/8 inch body. Variation between pieces is slight, which for a clay based product means the glaze has come out close from piece to piece rather than identical. Twenty five to a box, 6.05 square feet.

Clay and glaze

Terracotta means fired clay, and the glaze that goes over it carries whatever surface quality the tile has. The bevel at the perimeter catches light and puts a small shadow at every joint, which gives a plain square some articulation. Style is recorded as classic. Glazed terracotta tiles behave differently from porcelain under a blade, being softer and more prone to chipping if a cut is rushed. Firing also leaves each piece very slightly different in shape, so a run laid tight will show small irregularities along the joint that a machine made tile would not.

Cuts should be taken slowly on a clay body, especially where a bevel meets the blade. Ordering the full quantity together avoids mixing firings, which is where a visible change in the glaze usually comes from.

Care
