Italian Murano Glass Vase, Speckled Grey Satin Finish, 1980s

In the 1980s, Murano glassmakers refreshed surface techniques by pairing blown glass with matte finishes achieved through sandblasting or acid treatment. Speckled glass, known as “a macchie,” combines this velvety texture with inclusions of colored powder, producing a cloud-like, stone-like effect.
Italian blown Murano glass vase, circa 1980. Tapered body with a narrowed opening, grey speckled surface over an off-white ground, treated with a matte satin finish. Natural gradient from deep grey to lighter tones toward the base. Dark-toned interior contrasting with the satin exterior. Glasshouse and manufacturer unidentified.
Good apparent condition based on the photographs provided: even surface, no visible chips at the rim or base.
