Lars Pirak Kirun Tenn Salt Cellar

A pewter salt cellar in the form of a ptarmigan, the Saltripa, one of Lars Pirak’s most recognised designs. The bowl of the bird forms the salt vessel, the tail the spoon rest. Stamped Kirun. A small, perfectly resolved object that carries considerable cultural weight. Lars Pirak (1932-2008) was a Lule and North Smi artist, yoiker and duodji master from Jokkmokk, Sweden. The University of Ume conferred an honorary doctorate on Pirak in 2003 in recognition of his contribution to Smi culture. His work is held in museum collections across the world.
