Athens Grey Light Serie Parquet arrives as a honed marble mosaic sheet measuring 12 1/4 by 16 3/16, each one covering 0.69 square feet. The parquet arrangement gives a sheet its own internal rhythm, so a floor built from them does not read as a simple grid.

Honed grey, parquet layout

Honing grinds the stone smooth but leaves it matte, which hides scratching and etching better than a polished face and keeps the grey even rather than reflective. The parquet design sets bars at angles to one another inside each sheet. At 3/8 inch the sheets are thin enough to follow a bed without difficulty. A 1/2×12 pencil liner matches, and gray marble mosaics in this stone come in several other patterns.

  • Matte surface A honed face keeps wear and etching less visible than a polished one would.
  • Pattern inside the sheet The parquet arrangement happens within each sheet, not across them.

Shower floors is the usage on file, with kitchen recorded as the room. Sheets go down as units and every one needs its back fully buttered, since a hollow under stone turns into a cracked piece once weight passes over it. Cuts between the bars come from a utility knife, while a cut through a bar wants a wet saw. Coverage is 0.69 square feet a sheet.

  • Butter every sheet Full contact behind the mesh prevents cracked pieces later.
  • Count in sheets 0.69 square feet each, sold individually rather than by the box.

Why we chose it

  • Follows a fall Small pieces and many joints let a sheet sit flat on a sloped bed.
  • Forgiving finish Honed stone hides the small marks that a polished surface shows.
  • Coordinating pieces Subway tile, polished tile and several waterjet patterns share this stone.

Care

Marble in a wet area still needs a penetrating sealer after installation and again every one to two years. Keep acidic cleaners away and use a pH neutral stone product, never bleach, ammonia or an abrasive pad.
