Carrara T honed marble in a subway format, supplied as a mosaic already arranged on mesh: bars of 2 3/4 by 5 1/2 mounted on a sheet measuring 8 7/16 by 16 11/16. Each sheet covers 0.89 square feet, ten make a box, and four matching trims are cut from the same stone.

Assembly done in advance

Laying small marble pieces one at a time is slow and unforgiving of a wandering line. Mesh mounting shifts that work off the wall and into the factory, so the spacing arrives fixed. Variation in Carrara T is moderate, meaning the grey veining moves noticeably between bars, which is what most people want from this stone. Sheets are 3/8 inch. White marble mosaics of this kind pair with a pencil liner, a cornice, a base and a second pencil profile.

Care

Seal after installation, then every one to two years. Carrara marks where acid lands, so citrus and vinegar cleaners are out and a pH neutral stone product handles routine cleaning.
